The first vineyards in New South Wales were planted in 1791 with vines from South Africa. It wasnt until the 1800s that the two grape varieties, that would become the more prominent grapes of New South Wales, where introduced to the state; with Governor John Macarthur introducing the Shiraz grape in 1833 and Chardonnay in 1862 by a pioneer Alf Kurtz. |
